The humble polo neck has to be a winter staple for anyone living in a cold country. For some reason I haven’t had one in my wardrobe for a good few years now. I picked up a cashmere polo neck in the Marks and Spencer sale, which was a complete bargain at £50. Ever since then I haven’t been able to stop wearing it. I can’t get over how versatile it is! It’s oh so soft and looks good thrown on with just about anything. For me it’s important to have pieces that you can wear over and over again and style in a completely different ways. Today I thought I’d show you 3 ways to wear a polo neck. These three outfit are staples in my wardrobe. Whether you want to be smart, casual or repurpose a summer dress; there’s an outfit for you!
1 – Under a summer dress
Don’t mind me I’m just watching the cat on the fence…

Despite the fact I feel about 12 years old when I wear this outfit – I love it! I much prefer summer clothes and I struggle with finding good winter outfit that isn’t jeans and a jumper. Thanks to my gorgeous polo neck I can now use my summer wardrobe all year around! Paired with thick tights, flat mary jane style shoes and a warm winter coat it looks rather stylish and like you made an effort. I love an outfit like that!
2 – Weekend Casual
Jeans – Mango (similar)
Throw on a pair of slim fitting blue jeans with some trainers and you’re good to go. I do love a slouchy weekend look every now and again. It’s perfect for running errands and lazing around at home. Swap the jeans for black skinnies and throw on a pair of heeled ankle boots to switch it up to a smart look in seconds.
3 – The midi skirt
This might just be my favourite look. I love how the thick, soft polo neck contrasts with the sheer bits of my pleated midi skirt. I wear this with chunky heeled boots and nude tights. It’s a great smart casual outfit, which is why I continue to pull this outfit out first thing in the morning. For extra warmth I put a pair of socks over my tights and throw on a coat with a thick scarf. You may think I’m mental for not wearing thick tights, but I’m never cold in this!
You can probably tell that I am a huge fan of any item of clothing that fits effortlessly into your wardrobe. Even more so when you can wear it over and over again, creating a different look each time. I really want to pair this with my whimsical printed skirt from Zara for some 60’s vibes. The possibilities are endless…
So there we have it; 3 ways to wear a polo neck this winter. How do you style yours?
