The 5 Summer Lipsticks That You Need In Your Life

Summer is by far my favourite time of year and lipsticks are my favourite make-up item, so naturally the two go together perfectly! There’s something about a bright or a pink toned lipstick that just screams summer. I love the way a lipstick can completely change your look or make you look more pulled together. When it’s hot though, the last thing you want is a load of make up on your face or eyes, so I love a more natural look with all the focus on a long-lasting, lightweight lipstick. So here are the 5 Summer lipsticks that I can’t live without, and that you need in your life!

NYC Expert Last Lipstick in Smooth BeigeThis is creamy, moisturising and lightweight, making it perfect to throw on and go lipstick. It is a gorgeous pale coral-nude, which looks incredible if you have a tan. It’s a good lipstick to wear on more natural make up days or when you’re rocking a smudged eye make-up look. The ‘expert last’ in the name of the lipstick is a bit mis-leading, it’s not that longest wearing lipstick and it all comes off when you’re eating, but it does last a while. It fades evenly too which is always a bonus. If you’re really pale, this is not for you, I’m quite tanned/bronzed (for a pale person) at the moment and I can just about pull it off. If you have a warmer or darker skin tone this is going to look amazing on you!

Benefit Lollitint – This isn’t a lipstick per say, but it goes on your lips so I’m including it! Benefit Lollitint is a gorgeous candy orchid lip tint, that gives your lips a natural perk. It’s a gorgeous, long-lasting, natural looking shade that add just the right amount of colour. I’ve reviewed this here if you want to see more pictures!

NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream in San Paulo – The world an his wife have been raving about the NYX soft matte lip creams since they launched in Boots this year. I’m somewhere on the fence with them. I love this colour, it is a gorgeous summery, bright pink. But I’m not sold on the formula, yes it’s comfortable and matte but it isn’t that long-lasting and it fades in a really patchy way. It’s not one you can throw on and go, it requires more work. If you want a gorgeous summery shade on your lips for a few hours give it a go. I love wearing it if I’m out and about for a short while and I can’t get over how pretty the shade is! For it’s price point it does a really good job, it just can’t compete with my YSL faves!

Charlotte Tilbury Hot Lips in Liv It Up – This is the most gorgeous pinky nude, it adds a natural shot of colour to the lips and perks up your complexion. Think Liv Tyler in the 90’s – it is her colour after all. The formula is creamy and it glides on the lips well. It lasts all day, but if you want that colour intensity you get when its first applied you will need a little touch up. It layers up nicely and feels comfortable, it’s also pretty smudge proof too. This formula isn’t matte but it’s also not too shiny, it’s somewhere close to a comfort matte, I think. Every time I put this on I look in the mirror and hope that I’m magically Arwen (a girl can dream!)

YSL Rouge Pur Couture The Mats in 215 Lust for Pink –  This is the best of the bunch. The YSL Rouge Pur Couture the Mats are my favourite ever lipstick formula. They are long wearing and the matte formula is so comfortable. They last all day and don’t dry out your lips. The shade range is incredible too. 215 is a gorgeous cool toned bright pink shade. It’s the ultimate summer colour and it makes me so happy when I wear it! It’s the ultimate summer throw on and go shade. YSL Beauty I LOVE YOU!

So there we have it – the 5 summer lipsticks that you need in your life. Each slightly different and each amazing in their own way. If you have the budget to splurge the YSL would be the top of my list and if you’re on a budget pay a visit to NYX.

What are you ultimate summer shades?

The NYC lipstick appeared on my doorstep (thank you whoever sent it!) and the Benefit Lollitint was given to me at an event so I did not pay for them. The rest we're paid for with my own money. As always my review is honest.
