By day I’m a huge coffee lover – I’m not sure I can function without the stuff! By night, I’m a hot chocolate monster. Just the thought of getting home and treating myself to something sweet makes the cold walk bearable. Most of the time I’m an options girl, I adore both the mint and orange flavours. I flit between them depending on my mood; but sometimes I like to treat myself to something a little more special. So I thought I’d share 3 decadent hot chocolate recipes that I’m obsessed with – you’re so welcome!

I’m not entirely sure why I’m typing this disclaimer, but clearly this isn’t the healthiest choice. It’s a little treat that I have every now and again. I’m a firm believer in balance and listening to what your body needs. Quite frankly, sometimes it is a decadent hot chocolate! So enjoy in moderation every once in a while. Preferably on a miserable and freezing cold day – it always tastes better then for some reason!

So without further ado here are my 3 decadent hot chocolate recipes. The method for each is the same, the ingredients just differ.

Terrys Chocolate Orange Hot Chocolate (makes 1)

1/3 Terrys Chocolate Orange of your choice

1 mug of a milk of your choice (I used soya)

Squirty Cream

Marshmallows (optional)

Peanut Butter and Dark Chocolate Hot Chocolate (makes 1)

1 Mug of a milk of your choice

6 squares of dark chocolate

1 tbsp of smooth peanut butter

Nutella Hot Chocolate (makes 1)

1 Mug of milk of your choice

2 tbsp of Nutella

Squirty cream

Chocolate sauce (optional)

Marshmallows (optional)

To do

Grab small saucepan (ideally a milk pan with a lip) and add one mug of milk into it. Heat this up on a medium heat and wait until it starts to simmer.

Once simmering, turn the heat down and add in your chocolate/peanut butter/Nutella. Stir until it has completely melted.

Take a teaspoon and taste the mixture. You can melt in more chocolate if desired.

Once the mixture is heated through, pour into your favourite mug and top with squirty cream and add marshmallows or chocolate sauce, if desired.

These are hardly a groundbreaking or complicated recipes, but they’re favourites of mine that I’ve been using for a good few years now. So treat yourself to one of these decadent delights, grab and blanket and get cosy with a TV Series for the perfect winter night in.
