Over the last year or so I’ve become a huge YSL Beauty Fan. From the formula right down to the packaging and the incredible wear time, you can’t go wrong. My most recent purchase has been yet another lipstick – the YSL Rouge Pur Couture The Mats 205, which is a deliciously berry toned and wonderfully autumnal. I cannot stop reaching for this stunning shade, now that the leaves have turned a burnt orange and there’s a chill in the air.
The shade may look a bit intimidating in the iconic YSL gold bullet, but rest assured it’s not! When swatched it is a stunning purple toned, vampy, berry shade. We all love a deep berry tone in the colder months right? As the name suggests it’s delightfully matte too – a rich and creamy formula, as opposed to a dry and chalky feeling matte. Which makes it even more appropriate for chapped lip season! The shade layers nicely and is best applied with a clear lip liner in thin layers, with a blot in between layers. (check out my lipstick hacks here.) The shade gets darker the more layers that are applied. The swatch below is with one layer on rather pale skin. Two to three thin layers achieve a pay off close to the bullet colour; it does depend on your natural lip colour of course.
As you would expect with a £26 lipstick, the wear is incredible. Deep purple shades are often a little problematic and are prone to gathering and bleeding. However, this one is an exception! The colour wears evenly and doesn’t gather in any ridges on the lips. You can even eat and drink a fair amount with this one and it doesn’t look to bad. Granted you’ll need to touch up towards the inside of the lips so the shade is even again. The YSL Rouge Pur Couture the Mats 205 leaves a lovely light berry toned stain on the lips, meaning that when it fades evenly the shade still looks good. You also do not need to wipe of and reapply this shade, you can layer it up and it will still look stunning.
The Rouge Pur Couture The Mats lipstick collection, never fails to impress me. It is my favourite lipstick range by far. I only wish there were more shades! 205 is nothing short of stunning and it’s perfect for the Autumn and Winter. When I’ve not been wearing a nude, this is the shade I’ve been reaching for. If you fancy treating yourself to an autumnal lipstick I’d highly recommend this one. If purples aren’t your thing they do stunning red and pink shades in the matte range too.
