2016 Highlights – It Wasn’t All Doom & Gloom!

If you believed everything you read on the internet you’d think that 2016 was the worst year ever. I beg to differ. I refuse to believe that 2016 was THAT bad for everyone. The cynic in me thinks that people were blowing it out of proportion for likes and retweets. 2016 wasn’t full of roses, puppies an unicorns but is any year? One a personal level it wasn’t half bad. On a global level it may look bad, but hasn’t it always been like that? Thanks to the internet and growth in celebrity culture we hear more about it. There are always bad things going on the world, we just hear more about them and feel more connected to them than ever before. Again that isn’t necessarily bad. To sprinkle a bit of positivity on the year I thought I’d share a few of my personal 2016 highlights.

I moved in with Hamish

In February 2016 Hamish and I moved into our little terraced house together. We had a few weeks of stress and multiple trips to the tips to try to make a flat and a house worth of stuff fit into one place! It’s still a work in progress, the house isn’t the way I want it to be but that’s renting for you! It’s been a fun few months and it’s been wonderful to not have to drag a suitcase around with me!

We were enslaved by a cat

A little timid, hungry black cat wandered into our house in the late summer. She’s still here. She was a tiny nervous thing and it’s been fun watching her turn into a sassy, confident cat. She used to hide in the corner and refuse to be in the same room as us. Now we’re inseparable. She comes for cuddles on my lap and even has her own bed in our room. Perhaps 2017 will be the year she lets us pick her up and stops jumping on my head at 3am.

I went to Amsterdam

Amsterdam with Hamish was so much fun! I’m not the kind of person who ever wants to go back to the same place but I’d head back there in a heartbeat! There’s so much to see and do, everyone is so friendly and welcoming. I adore the chilled out vibe and insane food they have there.

I explored Norfolk

It’s been lovely heading out and about and chronicling my adventures in Norfolk. There’s so much to see and do here. I’m so fortunate to live in such an amazing county and I cant wait to discover a few new places in 2017.

I got the job I love doing in the industry I’ve always wanted to work in

I know…pinch me. 2016 was the year I somehow managed to find the job I love doing in the right sector for me. For the last 4 months of 2016 I really enjoyed going to work… yeah I’m now one of those people. I’m not even sorry!

I spent an amazing weekend in London

From the epic southbank sunsets, to the food markets, the christmas lights and seeing a play in the west end. I had  such an amazing time staying at The K West Hotel for a long weekend in the big smoke.

Nights out

2016 was the year I became more sociable and made the effort to go out for coffee or wine with friends. I’ve had many a good night creating hazy memories and sore heads with some rather wonderful people.

New Friends

I also made a few new friends in 2016 and I’m looking forward to making more memories in 2017 with a lovely bunch of people.

See 2016 wasn’t all doom and gloom! I actually did alright with the whole resolution thing too. I was more sociable, I ate 5 a day for the majority of the year and I decided to invest more time in my hobby – blogging and photography (in the loosest sense of the word). So here’s to an amazing 2017 filled full of laughter, incredible experiences and a whole lot of fun!

What were your 2016 highlights?
