2018 has been the year of tailoring with a twist. From sports-luxe tailored trousers to chic suits the high street is full of so many amazing options. Dare I say – gone are the days of struggling to find occasion wear. I’ve written about this before, but this year it has been a breeze. I was at the Royal Norfolk Show style spotting with intu Chapelfield this week so a new outfit was in order. In the spirit of being a little different, I decided to opt for what I think is a modern take on occasion wear – a linen tailored two-piece.
The first thing that drew me to this Zara two-piece was the colour. If you follow me over on Instagram you’ll know I lead a pretty monochrome life, but enjoy splashes of red and orange every now and again. As it’s the summer I thought I would be brave and embrace a spot of colour. Red and orange tones are everywhere this season, pair them with more classic shapes and you’re giving a nod to a trend but owning a piece that will stand the test of time.
You can never go wrong with a pair of high-waisted wide leg trousers. Again, they’re everywhere the summer and are such an easy piece to wear. The fact that they’re made of linen, means that they are perfect for keeping you cool in the summer and gives a nod to the season itself. A word of warning about these trousers – they are insanely long. (I say this as someone who is 5ft 9” and can never find trousers long enough.) The model on the website has the bottoms of them turned up, which looks cool, but potentially too casual for a formal event.
The top is a wrap-around kimono style beauty, again another key trend this season that never really goes out of style. It would also look great with a pair of jeans or a pencil skirt for a more day to day look. This top is so comfortable and light too. If you do buy it, keep a pin on hand as the V neck is rather low.
I paired the outfit with my Nine West sandals. The mid-height block heel makes them perfect for walking in and not sinking in the ground. I did want to wear my classic black pointed toe heels but it was just too hot! If you are a stilettos girl, Timpsons in intu Chapelfield sell heel stoppers that stop you sinking in the ground. My bag is an oldie but a goodie from Accessorize. It was a great size for fitting all of my essentials in.
My earrings were also from Zara. I’m a huge fan of the giant earring trend at the moment and these hammered silver pair caught my eye. They are pretty heavy in the ear, but I survived a day of wearing them. Finally, I wore a fascinator that I already owned, to make it look a little more formal.
I absolutely loved my outfit for the Royal Norfolk Show. I know I’m going to get so much use out of it too. Whether you’re off to a wedding, the races or a social event, this really the perfect outfit for 2018. It is comfortable, on trend and you’ll get so much use out of it. It is so easy to dress up or dress down too. So there we go, a modern take on occasion wear that’s perfect for any upcoming summer events.
