Five Reasons to Take a Staycation This Year

On Saturday Hamish and I will be embarking on our second staycation. It will be our first in Norfolk, the county we are lucky enough call home. In recent years I’d never bothered with them, but as a child I always holidayed in the UK. At the time I thought it was super lame, my friends would spend their summers in Disneyland or Sardinia and I would be stuck in good old blighty. Now I look back on those memories fondly. Discovering more of the UK is something that definitely I want to do this year. I guess you could call it a delayed resolution! If you’re not already a fan here’s five reasons to take a staycation this year.

Five Reasons to take a staycation

1 – You deserve it – you really do. Imagine a weekend of not doing chores, writing blog posts and doing endless loads of laundry. We all need an escape from the grinds of daily life and a staycation is perfect for that. So go outside, get some fresh air and get exploring! You’ll come home refreshed, relaxed and re-inspired…Besides just think of all of the blog content you’ll be creating!

2 – There’s little to no travel time – Granted little old blighty can’t promise the heat of the med but what it can offer is less time spent travelling. You can kiss goodbye to getting up at stupid o’clock and wasting your life hanging around in departures. That’s not to mention the stress of getting through security at 4am when you’re half asleep.

3 – You’ll save yourself some pennies – You can make it as expensive or as cheap as you like. If you’re on a shoestring, make your house your base camp and spend the weekend exploring. There are always loads of free things to see and do too. Or treat yourself to a nice hotel, converted barn or an Air BnB if you really want to escape. Either way it’ll be cheaper than going abroad.

4 – I bet your home county is pretty awesome – Perhaps you’ll have explored it at some point, but you never explore as much as you do when you’re elsewhere. When you’re in a different city for 48 hours you can go nuts and try to squeeze in as much as possible. When you’re at home for the weekend, Netflix comes a calling and you never actually end up getting out there. I can guarantee you’ll discover something to make you fall in love with your home county.

5 – Haven’t you always got a list of place to visit near home that you never get around to visiting? Yeah? Well go ahead and pencil in a staycation and get ticking that list off. Even plan more than one in multiple counties. Life’s about the adventures, you won’t remember that weekend of doing nothing!

So grab your diary and find a free weekend for a staycation and fill it full of exciting adventures.

Can’t wait to hear about your weekend trip, it sounds beautiful.

We always holidayed in the U.K. too and I hated it. Every year I would ask Mum if we could go to Disney instead but she insisted it was important to see your own country before going abroad. I’m so thankful now! I think I’ve been to almost every county!

My current staycation wish list is the Cotswolds, the Lakes, Wales and the New Forest! Determined to tick at least one off this year!

Thanks – I should have a few blog posts up about it in the next few weeks 🙂 I still haven’t been to Disney either, I’m not sure I’d want to now tbh. Have you got around to going?

Your list sounds amazing, I think the Cotswolds and the New Forest are a couple of the places I’ve yet to go to. I adore the Lakes and have a huge soft spot for Wales as I lived there when I was younger.
