Almost a year ago I began my skincare journey with a trip to U and Your Skin, where I was lucky enough to meet Louise Thomas-Minns. Over the last 15 years she has been busy working her socks off to create her own empire. She is the proud owner of the U and Your Skin Lounge, a Panasonic ambassador, a wife, a mother and she is in the process of launching her own skin care line – Louise Thomas skin care. Louise is also one of the nicest people I’ve met, she oozes positivity and is one of those people you instantly want to be friends with. With the launch of her skincare line this year, I jumped at the chance to pick her brains about the brand!
From skin therapy to skin care
After developing a successful 3D approach to skincare at the U and Your Skin Lounge, it seemed like a natural step for Louise to come out with her own line. In fact it’s something that’s she’s wanted to do for a good few years now and it’s something that Louise has been working on in the background.
How did Louise Thomas skin care come about?
Louise has worked within the beauty industry for the last 24 years, so its safe to say she knows a thing or two about skin! Louise Thomas skin care has been something that she has had in the back of her mind for the last 12 – 15 years. She had found her gap in the market through education, hard work and listening to her clients. Launching a line doesn’t happen overnight, but she decided that it was something ‘that was meant to be now.’
Tell me about Louise Thomas skin care.
For the last year and a half Louise has been working with a chemist to come up with five key products to launch with (rumour has it that there are two more on the way!) She has developed a cleanser, three serums and a hydrator, due out in late 2018. I was lucky enough to be on the testing panel, so I can safely say that this is a launch to get excited about! I’ve never come across products like these or as good as these before.
What makes Louise Thomas skin care different?
It’s all about empowerment, education and results!
Louise Thomas skin care aims to empower people to listen to, and look after their own skin. Not only will you be using some fantastic products, but you’ll be getting to know you own skin. Through online tutorials Louise aims to educate people and arm them with the knowledge to become their own skincare experts.
Simplicity is key
When it comes to a skincare routine simplicity is key. Marketing and advertising have lead us to believe that we need a complicated skincare routine, but that’s not the case!
Louise has created a simple routine for you to follow, that can be done in as little as two minutes. Equally you could take a little time out for yourself and spend longer massaging in the serums and the hydrator.
How does she do it?!
You might be wondering how on earth Louise does it all? (I for one did!) Louise simply said it is normal life for her, she doesn’t know any different. She is fortunate to have a supportive husband who is self employed so understands the challenges of running a business and this way of life has become ingrained in her. Her life is the ‘organised chaos that was meant to be.’
Making decisions and saying no is something that I really struggle with so I was keen to ask Louise about her decision making process. Over the years she has become good at following her heart and listening to gut her gut instincts. She says that you should listen to your heart and then your head. There’s no point doing something if your heart isn’t in it. Amen to that!
Louise is a fountain of wisdom when it come to business, so if you’d like to know more about her check out Laura Stafford Smith’s interview.
Quick fire skincare questions
To end our interview I thought I’d ask Louise a couple of general skincare questions.
What’s the biggest skincare mistake?
Impatience! Whilst it takes 3-7 days for you to work out if a cleanser is working for you. It can take between 30 and 60 days to tell if a serum and moisturiser is working. Normally by that time I’d have moved one to the next products without giving the last a chance to work. So a consistent skincare routine really is key! So unless you’ve had some horrible adverse reaction – stick with it – it’ll be worth it.
What’s your desert island product?
Without hesitation Louise said that she couldn’t live without SPF.
