Origins skincare (link) is one of those brands that has been on my radar for the longest time. Earlier on in the year I leapt at the chance to give it a go, by way of the British Beauty Blogger box. The mix and mask box was designed to showcase the best of Origins mask offerings. Let’s face it, who doesn’t love a good face mask! From the beautifully packaged box, right down to the smart collection of products; Jane did a fantastic job curating the box. I’ve become a bit of an Origins Skincare fan since it landed on my doorstep and I’ve discovered a couple of staples products that I can’t be without too!
Origins Drink Up Intensive Overnight mask – This cult classic is my new holy grail product. How I hadn’t tried it before is beyond me! I use this on my skin in place of an overnight moisturiser once or twice a week and I awake with plump and hydrated skin. It really is a saviour for those colder days when you skin is exposed to the elements and the heating! This is so worth the hype and I’ll be purchasing it when this generous sized mini runs out. If you have dry, dull skin that’s in need of some serious TLC this is the product for you.
Origins Original Skin Retexturing Mask with Rose Clay – This retexturing mask is perfect for those days where your skin needs a gentle scrub and a bit of a deep clean. It contains rose clay which known for its gentle hydrating properties. Apply the mask, chill out for 20 minutes or so and remove it with warm water. The tiny grains gently polish the skin leaving you with a soft, smooth and more radiant complexion.
Origins GinZing Peel-off mask – This copper face mask certainly looks stunning, it’s the perfect Sunday night selfie mask! It is designed to brighten your complexion by whisking away dead skin cells in one easy peel. I found it did neither. In fact I’m pretty sure it made my skin break out and it does not peel off at all. After a good 5 minutes of trying I gave up and stained my muslin cloth trying to get it off of my face! To me a peel off mask is something cheap that you used as a teenager at a sleepover. Not something expensive and results driven. I’m really disappointed with this as I normally love anything that gives you a glow!
Origins By All Greens Deep Cleansing Mask – This foaming deep cleansing mask isn’t what you first expect. It’s not one of those carbonated youtube sensations but it’s more like a deep cleanser that you leave on your skin and then re-activate. Infused with the goodness of greens it’s suppose to work wonders on decongested and dull skin. I enjoy using this on days where my skin feels a bit clogged, or when I’ve been travelling. I like the idea of putting the goodness of greens on your skin but the results weren’t as outstanding as I had expected. I’m glad I got to try this out, but I don’t think I’ll be purchasing it. I imagine it will work wonders for people with oily congested skin or city slickers.
Origins Maskimizer – This is a hydrating mask preparation spray, which is packed full of a marine algae complex, designed to soften and hydrate the skin. The idea is that it primes the skin ready to make the most of the mask. I’m on the fence about whether this is a gimmick or not. On the one hand it works wonders for my dry skin. I’ve been using like a toner as well. On the other hand it is a bit of a princess product and I haven’t notice a massive difference between the results of the mask when I’ve used this and when I haven’t. I will continue to use up the bottle but I’m likely not to repurchase it.
Origins VitaZing Energy Boosting Moisturiser – This was my ultimate summer base. It is a gorgeous self adjusting tinted moisturiser adds a bit of colour and a nice glow to the skin. It’s the perfect natural, dewey base for hot days. If you are pale like me, err on the edge of caution as this is on the warm toned, dare I say orangey, side of self adjusting. I loved it in the summer though as it made my face match my body after using a gradual tanning moisturiser.
Also included in the box were three mask pods. I gave the Clear Improvement Charcoal Mask and the Out of Trouble Mask to my sister, as they were more suited to her skin type. I loved the Drink Up 10 minute mask, it’s an amped up, quicker acting version of the Overnight mask. It’s great to use first thing to give your skin a shot of hydration, especially if you’re off to a wedding or an event. My skin was so soft and smooth after I used this and my make up glided on nicely. If you prefer sitting down and relaxing with a hydrating mask this is the one for you.
All in all I’m an Origins Skincare convert! This set was the perfect introduction to the brand for a newbie like me. I imagine Origins fan would have loved the mix and mask box too. This was limited edition, but the Christmas sets, like The Mask Marvels Set, contain similar products and would make a lovely gift. I’ve been eyeing up a few myself!
