At the top of Wensum Street, in historic Tombland, you’ll find The Spice Lounge Norwich – one of the many curry houses this fine city has to offer. There are a huge range of dishes to try, which come from many of the different Indian regions. You can expect the ‘British favourites’ as well as a plethora of more unusual curries, alongside the most incredible service.
From the get go we had the waiting staffs undivided attention, nothing was too much for them. It’s often the little details that make a difference – opening the door, friendly chit-chat and pulling your chair back. The staff at the Spice Lounge Norwich have it nailed, so many places could learn a lot from them. The other thing I really loved about the restaurant was the ultra modern interior that was juxtaposed against some traditional indian features. The aircon was also amazing as it was 28 degrees and humid outside!
The food was spectacular! I thoroughly enjoyed my meal. We had poppadoms with sauces to start followed by a King Prawn Shatkur, Saag Paneer, Lamb Korai, Mushroom Rice, Onion Baji’s and a peshwari naan. The former two for me and the latter for Hamish. My mind was put at ease when I was ordering about my inability to eat certain foods and I was assured that the dishes did not contain any ingredients that I could not have. This was brilliant and the staff were knowledgable which gave me confidence in the Spice Lounge.
My King Prawn Shatkur was delicately spiced, zingy and packed full of flavour. The Saag Paneer was perfectly balanced and flavoursome. Hamish thoroughly enjoyed his dishes, I tried some of his Lamb Korai, it was divine and like nothing I had tasted before. The portions may appear small but your eyes will deceive you! There was more than enough of the incredible food to go around.
The Spice Lounge Norwich comes highly recommended. From a spacious restaurant to attentive, incredible staff and the best curry I’ve had in a long time, you really can’t go wrong. The Spice Lounge also offer takeaway and student discount, so if you can’t make it into the city, amazing curry can still come to you!
