Winter Fashion Obsession – Chunky Knits and Mini Skirts

Despite being born in the winter, I’m a summer girl at heart. Summer dressing is so easy for me. I can grab a dress and sandals or culottes and a top and I’m as happy as Larry. Winter on the other hand, I’m not so fond of. Don’t get me wrong, I adore coats and jackets, but I find it so hard to dress. Normally I’d be a skinny jeans, thin knit and boots kind of girl but this year I’ve decided to mix it up. Why? Well, the pair of skinny jeans I own are uncomfortable and I’ve slowly been breaking out of my fashion comfort zone. I’ll always wear all black everything most of the time. After my Topshop Norwich personal shopping experience I uncovered my winter fashion obsession – chunky knits and mini skirts. With a little pop of colour too!

The red jumper

I can’t quite pinpoint what it is that I love about this jumper. The colour is stunning, it’s bright and bold but it’s not too out there. Which means I don’t feel like a walking traffic cone in it! It’s warm and cosy without being bulky and making me look like the Michelin man. Perhaps I love the knit and the shape the most. The diagonal lines in different directions, the split on the side and sleeve make it just that little bit different. Perhaps it’s more flattering too.

The pleather skirt

Whilst that red jumper is the star of the show, the little black pleather skirt has fast become a staple in my wardrobe. It instantly dresses up any outfit and gives it a bit of an edge. It’s high waisted, yet comfortable (I sized up) and hits at just the right point on my thigh. It’s definitely a mini but it’s not so mini that I feel exposed. It looks equally as good with or without tights and goes well with most shoes or boots. It’s a great from day to night piece too.

To balance out the top heavy look I alway wear 20 denier tights and where possible dainty ankle boots. Admittedly this does look good with my brogue creepers and flat ankle boots but these heeled boots balance it out a little better. Because its too cold to go coatless I always throw on my trusty black coat over the top for warmth.

I just adore the way this outfit looks, the contrast in proportions, and the pop of colour this gorgeous red Topshop number gives me. It’s just one of those outfits that I know will give me a much needed boost of confidence on a cold winter’s day. The power of a good outfit is incredible really!

So here’s to a winter packed full of pops of colour, thick knits and mini skirts. Well, for as long as possible, if it gets too cold I’l have to break the trousers back out for warmth! There’s no doubt that red is the colour of the season and I for one will be fully embracing it, in small doses of course. It’s doubtful that I’ll ever have a full colourful week, but you know what I’m ok with that. So whatever you’re loving fashion wise the winter – own it. The best accessory to any outfit is confidence, walking with your head held high and a little sass.

Whats your winter fashion obsession?

Love this look! I’ve tried it myself but I think I need to hunt for the right length jumper, mine are so huge it looks like I’m not actually wearing a skirt!
